HOTEL WORKERS' RELIEF FUND
With hundreds of Monterey Bay area hotel workers laid off or fired for unjust causes in recent months, Local 483 members have been heartened by the outpouring of community donations to the Monterey Bay Hotel Workers’ Relief Fund. More than 50 laid-off Quail Lodge worker families and 12 fired Hilton worker families received free Thanksgiving baskets and later holiday gift certificates and bags of toys made possible by thousands of dollars worth of donations to the Fund in recent weeks. These workers and their families will continue to receive assistance through the relief fund in these hard times.
To make a tax deductible contribution to the Monterey Bay Hotel Workers’ Relief Fund, please make your checks payable to “UNITE HERE Local 483 ACTION Council” and mail to UNITE HERE Local 483 ACTION Council, 702-C Forest Avenue, Pacific Grove, CA 93950. Thank you so much!
Fight Back Against Hotel Industry Attacks!
Hotels are using layoffs and firings to try to scare workers and weaken our standard of living. The Monterey Bay community has joined Local 483 in fighting back against these attacks at the hotels where they have started. More than 200 supporters participated in the Vigil for Quail Lodge workers on November 15, and more than 150 joined the rally and justice march at the Hilton Garden Inn and Hyatt Regency in Monterey on November 18.
Elected and Community Leaders Support Quail Lodge Workers !
Elected officials and community leaders in the Monterey Bay area have supported the Quail Lodge workers through resolutions and petitions calling for the hotel to offer jobs back to laid-off workers if the hotel reopens. Since the Monterey County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed the first resolution for Fair Recall of Quail Lodge Workers on October 13, 2009, similar resolutions have passed unanimously by the City Councils of Marina and Seaside, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Monterey Council, the Monterey County Democratic Central Committee, the Green Party Monterey County, and the Monterey Bay Central Labor Council.
