Watsonville, CA. UNITE HERE Local 483, representing 15 workers at The Pajaro Valley Golf Club, approved a labor contract that increases employer contributions to health and pension benefits by 25% over 20 months. The agreement also provides job protection in the event of a change in ownership. The contract expires at the end of February 2013 and covers cooks, dishwashers, servers, greenskeepers, and maintenance workers.
“It’s great that we kept our health insurance and improved our pension during these difficult times,” said Luis Calderon, a 23-year Pajaro Valley Golf greenskeeper and Local 483 member.
Pajaro Valley Golf Club, at 967 Salinas Road in Watsonville, is owned and managed by Aerostar Development. The primary owner is former golf pro Charles Leider.
Founded in 1937, UNITE HERE Local 483 represents 1,300 Monterey Bay area hospitality workers at two dozen hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, and golf courses.
